Hanging on by a Thread
Savannah has had her blanket ever since she was a tiny infant. When she was very little, not even able to roll over yet, I was looking for a blanket to cover her at night that was 100% cotton. "They" say that 100% cotton is best for infants because in case she wraps it around her head it's "breathable". So I found a little blanket and covered her up one night with it. The next morning when she woke and I was pulling her out of her crib she threw a fit because the blanket was left behind. I gave her the blanket and she was instantly happy. The rest I can say is history. This poor blanket, it's nothing to look at anymore but she will not go to sleep at night without. True love.
This blanket has been ripped and resown multiple times. But now we're at the point that we can't even sew it because it's so thin. We only allow her to sleep with it at night now because we're afraid the thing will just disintegrate into thin air at some point, it's like an antique so no playing with it during the day. Out of all the trips we've been on and overnight stays I can't BELIEVE we haven't lost it yet.

Homeschool Group
We've joined a new homeschool meetup group and Benjamin and Savannah have been loving it! I've been a bit concerned because he only has one boy in his class at school and his other friend goes to school full time (public school) so we don't get to see him as much since school has started. So, we've branched out to make more friends! I'm so glad we did....I even like the moms in the group. :)
This is some of the group at the Heard Museum from a few days ago. The weather has been beautiful and it turned out to be a really nice visit.

Eggsperiment
Ever wonder what happens to an egg when it soaks in vinegar for a couple of days? Yeah, me neither. But it was part of Ben's homework assignment and it turned out to be really neat! The vinegar eats the shell away and all that is left is the soft fragile membrane protecting it. Kind of felt like a water balloon. This was part of our study of cells. Been fun. :)

Albert Einstein
We're doing a project on Albert Einstein (since Benjamin wants to be a scientist why not learn about one of the most famous scientists, right?). One of Albert's famous quotes is "Imagination is more important than knowledge". When I said that to Ben his response was "Wow! You mean he used his imagination????". Ha!

15 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Mess with a Homeschool Mom
I came across this list when I was reading through some homeschool blogs. Good stuff.
1. She has a laminator and knows how to use it.
2. She often mumbles to herself, and claims she’s having a parent-teacher conference. Some may perceive this as craziness, to the homeschool mom, it’s normal.
3. She can juggle a meal, fold clothes, and teach a spelling lesson, all while holding a baby on her hip. You may even call her a multi-tasker. {Gasp}
4. She’s protective of her kids, to the point of psychotic. Urban legend claims the termmama-bear originated from the homeschool mom. Research is pending.
5. She’s got moves like Jagger. Runs from room to room, putting out fires, or even starting a few of her own.
6. She’s wise beyond years, constantly studying, researching and growing, to keep ahead of her brood of youngins.
7. She’s not afraid to wear PJs after 10 a.m. or yoga pants ALL. DAY. LONG.
8. She almost never calls in sick.
9. She makes a list and checks it twice, or three and four times depending on how Type Ashe is.
10. She’ll go toe-to-toe with any stranger who questions in the wrong tone or before she’s had a second cup of coffee – “What about socialization?”
11. She stares algebra in the eye and makes y run from x. She will later tell a bad math joke –Dear Algebra, stop asking us to locate your X, she’s never coming back. {Insert evil laugh}
12. She’s been known to cancel school and declare a sun day, instead of a snow day, just because she can.
13. She handles dead animals and bugs with ease, all in the name of science.
14. She’s not afraid to face the Warden of Words (the librarian) to square up on late fees.
15. She won’t claim harassment when the ‘principal‘ pats her on the booty.

First Day of School
Pre-K and 1st grade....where does the time go?
I'm beginning to question if we made the right choice to homeschool. There are so many reasons we do it, but now I'm starting to wonder if he needs to be in school every day. Mainly because we've had more bad days than good days with it this last week. Also, I wish he had more things to do at home than just play video games. I do try to limit the video games but it's so easy sometimes to just let him play so I can get some things done around the house. Bad mom....I know. Lessons take anywhere between 2-3 hours (that's with several breaks) so that leaves A LOT of time in the day left. He's not interested in playing outside (which I don't blame him in the Texas heat). So trying to keep him busy and away from the video games is draining me.
I'm going to check into several homeschool "meet up" groups that have boys his age. Next Tuesday while he's in school (my only day to have some time to do some major research on these groups) hopefully I'll have found some groups to check out. Hopefully finding support from other moms who have boys Ben's age will help lift my spirits and get him out of the house and away from the video games!!!!!!!!
