Port O'Connor

We took a mini vacation to Port O'Connor last week. David was already going to be there taking a client and new employee on a fishing trip (he's got a hard job, right?) so we just decided to all go and get out of the metroplex for a while. The only thing to do in Port O'Connor is fish. I mean that. There's one gift shop, only one decent restaurant, and one little bitty grocery store. We were an hour away from the nearest big city. So while David fished from sun up to sun down on Thursday the kids and I explored the city (which didn't take long) and had some major down time. We took walks, found some swings, walked out on a pier and saw dolphins jumping around, and took a lot of long naps (yay!). The refrigerator went out in the house that we rented originally so the next day they moved us to another house with a great ocean view. Since I had already unpacked and gotten settled in the first house it was kind of a chore to repack, move, and unpack again by myself (especially since both houses had lots and lots of stairs) but it was worth it. It was such a great time to just "be". For days we had no agenda, no cell service, and no LAN line. We had to just "be". It was fantastic.

Here we are at the only restaurant in town. The cool thing about this place was we could sit out on the patio overlooking the water and we got to watch dolphins swim by as we ate. As you can see, Savannah was a little grumpy right then.

David promised Benjamin he would take him fishing. So we found some docks by the restaurant and baited up. Here's David catching a fish. The kids were so excited.

Waiting.....

Watch and learn son.

Here's Benjamin fishing.

He actually caught a fish! I took several pictures while David and Ben were in this pose and in every shot Benjamin had his eyes on the fish. He's was so amazed!

Wading in the ocean.

As David and I were placing our order at the restaurant I looked over and Savannah was taking a big sip of Daddy's margarita. Of course I stopped her as soon as I noticed but I tell you what, the look on her face after having a taste of it was priceless. She then took a 3 hour nap that day....must have been the tequila. :)

Three Hour Potty Training

I thought I'd try potty training Savannah the other day. We headed to Target, got her some underwear (tie-dye panties...woo hoo...I was beyond excited), and started our training. Well, about three hours later and lots of soiled underwear and pee spots all over the carpet and bedding, I gave up. She does use the potty from time to time but she hasn't been consistent. Goodbye panties for now.....we'll try again in a couple of months.

I asked her to pose in her new underwear and here's what she did. CUTIE PIE!

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for Benjamin and Savannah. They were so happy to be there. I guess they got tired of me this summer....humpf.

Water Balloon Fights

I've been trying to be creative in keeping the kids entertained since it's too hot to play outside and I don't like them being in front of the T.V. all day. So our newest activity has been water balloon fights. They love it and so does Momma!

Bucket full of balloons.

Before pictures....everyone is all dry.

Uh oh....Benjamin has control of the water hose!

Run Savannah!

Drenched!

Fill her up!

Lovin' it!

Our Future Science Fiction Writer

Benjamin has a fascinating imagination. He comes up with the wildest stories. I can't even tell you most of them because they're so wild and for the most part make no sense that I get lost and can't follow his thought pattern. He's got some funny stories to tell though. Here's a short but funny one from the other day:

Benjamin:
I've killed goblins before. Did you know that I killed goblins?

Me:
Well, Ben, there's no such thing as goblins.

Benjamin:
But no no no, Momma, I KILLED GOBLINS WHEN I WAS IN OUTER SPACE. (insert funny outer space noise he makes).

I really have no reply to that....except to smile. Usually I'll keep asking him questions and his stories get wilder and wilder. But this one I just left be. :)

Toilet Paper Party

I gave Benjamin and Savannah 2 rolls of toilet paper and told them they could do whatever their little hearts desired with them. Benjamin asks "Really, can we make a REALLY big mess?" I said yes...if you know me well you know answering in such a positive way to the word "mess" is abnormal for me. Anyway, here's what Benjamin decided to do with it.

Bird House

We found a little baby bird clinging to our patio door. Poor little guy was so scared. As I was admiring the little guy (with the door open) he flew inside the house. You'd think we were being attacked by dinosaurs with all the screaming we were doing. It was hilarious. After about 10 minutes or so, and lots of effort with my broom, we finally convinced him to fly back outside. The kids LOVED it!

Here he is way up on the beam in the living room. I was so afraid he was going to poop in our house.....

Project Time

While David was out of town Benjamin and I did a project for Daddy. First I had Benjamin paint a piece of cardboard and then I had him collect as many small rocks as he could find outside. This is how it turned out. We hung it in Daddy's bathroom. Surprise Daddy! (Benjamin was sooo proud of all the rocks he collected!)

Big Girl Bed

This afternoon Savannah told me she wanted to nap in her big girl bed and NOT her toddler bed. I didn't argue. Here she is for the first time ever sleeping in her big girl bed. She's growing up so fast! Makes me sad.

I pulled out the trundle bed underneath her bed just in case she falls out of bed! It'll cushion her landing a little bit. :)
